Cave Temples of Dunhuang

Museums transport us in time and space. To ancient worlds and past decades or possible futures. One of the masters of this journey is the Getty Center. Nestled into a hillside in Downtown LA each visit promises to transport visitors to another country or century. The tram ride to the top of the hill offers a unique view of LA. Upon arrival you are greeted with architecture as breathtaking as the art it houses.

On this trip I journeyed to the Cave Temples of Dunhuang courtesy of a partnership between the Getty Conservation Institute and the Dunhuang Academy. This exhibit featured objects from the original site of Mogoa, a virtual immersive experience, and replicas of Cave 45.

I must admit the exhibit with the thousands of years old tapestry and the Cave replica was very impressive. The Virtual immersion experience not much so. We waited in a long line for a 7 minute virtual video. I learned more in the exhibit. That being said every visit to the Getty makes me want to live my dream and become a Docent.

Enjoy the Gallery!
